The book shimmy awards 2013

Hello everyone here is recap of the first annual book shimmy awards highlighting the best of YA literature. I had never seen a Tea Time with team epic reads before though I have heard of it. But today I was lucky because since this week was exam week and I was done all my exams I got to watch Tea Time with team epic reads and not any Tea Time. The Book Shimmy Awards live! It was pretty awesome I took notes along the 1h show and this is what they where!

First thought great decor! Not extravagant more accurately described as simple but it was really sweet, books in the background, epic reads sign and the piece of resistance... Theo James in a festive mask. He's not exactly how I picture Four/Tobias (from divergent) but nonetheless it was a most interesting decor. Here's a picture:

 and another picture ;)

The overall show was very sweet and funny at some points. For example they started off joking that the result envelopes had been carried over in a a bullet proof car and deposited by a man wearing black with a brief case tied to his wrist.Nothing but professional. A bit more interesting conversation between each other continued and meanwhile the comment section (which was automatically updated when someone commented) was on fire people where very excited! Only 7 minutes in there where 324 people watching The Book Shimmy Awards which is a decent amount. Some awards where handed out and then they got to the book with the most emotionally crippling ending, 2 guesses to who won.Yes it was Allegiant by Veronica Roth by a landslide which they showed on a graph. And then more awards where announced and the next one that I enjoyed hearing about was the best couple award. Will and Tessa won from The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Claire !!! Very happy about that since I completely agree they had 49% of the votes almost half and there where I think 5 in the category. But one thing that the 2 girls in epic reads said was that they had not read any of Cassandra Claire's books, anyone else who has not read them I highly recommend the series ( so did a bunch of people in the comments ;). Now 21 minutes in the people viewing the video was up to 335 and the comments still updating non stop.

Further into The Book Shimmy Awards one of the awards was book with the most feels I thought I would just point out that they pretty accurately described what "feels" are. Another interesting award was the best fandom award and Harry Potter won surviving the test of time. Potterheads are still very much alive! Next up on my favorite presentation of  an award was the best movie or TV adaptation of a book award. What made this category cool was in part the comments one nominee (and the winner) was Catching Fire and the comments such as "finnick odammmmn" and "catching Fiyahhhh" made me smile for some reason it made me thing a bit of Jennifer Lawrence.

We where now 52 minures in the awards show and the people viewing was holding steady at 330.
Some Comments or jokes that I enjoyed where:
- your award is coming to you by mail, and by mail I mean by owl from Hogwarts
- adult you ain't got no fandom on us
- The Theo James Talk. I'm not sure how to develop that but it was funny.

So following that the epic reads girls followed by talking about the Pagemaster that movie on books

Those that ring a bell? Anyways they then said that the winner of the best author of 2013 shall be referred to as the Pagemaster for the rest of this year. I thought that was pretty clever it would be cool if it caught on. The nominees where Cassandra Claire, Tahereh Mafi, Jenniffer L. Armentrout,Rainbow Rowell and Veronica Roth. And honestly I had no idea who to chose there all so amazingly talented and I adored all there books. About 12,000 votes came for this category and the winner was... The 2013 Pagemaster is (drum roll) Veronica Roth! Congratulation to her. I then however looked in the comments which where like a feed always being updated next to the screen and I was kind of disappointed by what I read there.

( Warning a bit of a rant following not the most Happy thing,if you don't want to read it feel free to skip to the next paragraph for more book excitement!) People where fighting over who was really the best author of 2013 some insults where thrown around and that makes me sad the fact that one author won does not mean that the other authors weren't as good it means that the author in this case Veronica Roth got the most votes not everyone has the same preferences, shall I be honest... I personally would not have picked Veronica Roth for I am more partial to another certain series and author that was nominated. But I am happy for her for she is a good writer and the people have spoken :). But now back to the comment part ( By the way if you're wondering why I'm bringing this up it is because I saw the opportunity to write what i think about this and I'm not sure when it will come again. So I would just like to get it off my chest.) Some comments where just plain rude for example to name a few (direct quotes from the comments section I assure you) I hate Allegiant, it should be thrown into a volcano,People hate Allegiant because the ending was stupid and useless, I don't understand? I hated that book etc...There was also some positive comments also like : Allegiant winning lots of awards was so deserved and to be expected, Allegiant deserved it was amazing I cried,LONG LIVE VERONICA ROTH, ALLEGIANT WOOH! Can we not agree like someone in the comments said that all authors are kind of Pagemasters. It's only an award show and some comments where uncalled for authors also have feelings. So ...My thoughts on the whole Veronica Roth is the new Pagemaster.Chill people please I have personally not read Allegiant yet and I'm not sure I want to yet since I am aware of the emotionally crippling ending and am not sure I'm ready to read that kind of a book at the moment. But I think some people are overacting from what I've read the two first books are well written and it's a great series and the ending like or not created a huge wave of talk on the books and series. So people had to care about the books to make such a bid deal about it. How I see it is an author writes a story and eventually the story becomes more than that to some. Some authors say characters tell them what to do. Veronica Roth wrote the whole series do you know how much work that is. Ive never completed a book but I have won NaNoWriMo once it opened up some perspective of what writer do. It's alot of work(awesome fun work, but work) and that 52,000 words was not even the end of my first draft some authors do 15 or more drafts. Veronica Roth like it or not knows the characthers better that her fans having spend litterally days with them wriiting the 3 books if she decides to end the books that way she did its her choice. You don't need to like the ending no one can force someone to like something be free to go to your friends and do a 20 minute rant on what you thought of it. But on social media especially an award show please just respect and aknowledge how much work the author put in and that it's her books and her choice how she wants to write them. A comment like "I want to throw it in a volcano" is not very nice especially at a book award show go be bitter somewhere else. I'm sorry that was a little harsh what I mean is save it for later, let people who love Allegiant savor the moment of one of there favorite series winning gold in 2013.

Ok well ... now proceeding that was the last award the next one was for... best book of 2013 which Allegiant also won.The epic reads teams had a little cardboard cutout of Veronica Roth it was funny here's a picture that Veronica Roth tweeted:

They finished by showing us there floor which was a total mess. And I have no problems with that. Here is the photo @epicreads tweeted of the floor and them after The Book Shimmy Awards.

The award show was not fancy smancy in the least but it was great fun to watch and I'm going to be watching again next year :)

For all winners check out the epic reads site they have the full awards show link on the page as well if you are interested in watching it. http://www.epicreads.com/blog/watch-the-book-shimmy-awards-results-show/

Review : Paranormalcy By Kiersten White

Title: Paranormalcy
Author: Kiersten White
Pages: 335
Publisher: Harper Teen

Evie's always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormal glamours.

But Evie's about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Description from Goodreads.com

_______________________________________

Full review:

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White, let's start by talking about the cover. I know that's what drew me to the book the cover is really nice its mysterious the girl in front looks strong and fierce and the background is both sinister, mysterious and a bit magical. So when I saw this book with its great cover and interesting title because I'm a fan of fiction supernatural paranormal books. But for some reason I kept on putting it back and not reading it it seemed good but for some reason the blurb in the back of the book didn't really pull me in..... that is until I reread it what 1 or 2 years later and then it really seemed cool and i thought now i really want to read it.Maybe it was because I was searching for that type of book and I wasn't two years ago. And all that to say I really enjoyed it and shouldnt have waited 2 years before reading it.

The main character Evie is extremely girly she loves pink and bedazzling things she enjoys watching a TV show kind of like a soap opera involving hot guys and high school and never misses an episode. Now in most books this would typically bug me since I'm not really a "girly" girl or particularly into those kind of things and usually in books the girls that are really into pink, bedazzling things, soap operas clothes and looks are the mean girls or just a type of character I usually dislike. But I pushed through the stereotypes and kept reading trying not to judge Evie by the aforementioned facts about her, and now having finished the book I can tell you I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would actually at some point in the book those things kind of became endearing because Evie was more than just "girly" she was also pretty though.Outside she is wearing pink has a bedazzled taser but  underneath that she is a strong person in how she thinks and acts you see that girly aspect through the whole book. But at the same time she also has some backbone it was different. In a good way.

Story wise it was also good there was a well thought out world in which Evie was living in. It was developed and through out the whole book you where pondering the same questions Evie was all the while wondering when the danger was going to come back and what was going to happen. The story plot line also included a lot of variety different species, creatures, government conspiracies, secret rebel groups, secret plans.Which are all awesome things to have in a story. It went even more in dept so most species have a background for example: where the werewolves came from and how they arrived to where they are now. I think that's one thing that made me really like this book, also the fact that there was comedic aspects to the book that made laugh. One more thing worth mentioning, that I found very interesting is the fact that in this book the good and the bad sides aren't clearly defined so good wasn't always so good and evil wasn't always so evil, some moments you think ah this person is the villain and later on it brings you to well.... maybe not.

Lets talks a bit more about the main character Evie the girl on the cover is not how I saw her. Like I said she was girly and at the end it did not bother me as much as i thought it would. It kind of made the book funny at some points girly stereotype and though a interesting combination. Also a different thing or a thing that got me thinking was the show she always watched the show that she based what normal life was like on. How school was, how people acted it was named Easton heights .My first thought on the show was don't base your life decisions on that show! My second thought was is it a real show? And after googling I found out it was not but it seemed so similar to other of those kind of shows that I wasn't sure. What I did find though threw the "Google" is a screen play for "Easton Heights" written by the author Kiersten White here's the link.

The love interest was pretty good and the question there love and relationship bring at the end is one of the big reasons I want to read the next book, that and I want to see what happens to Evie what can I say she kind of grew on me. And the secondary characters did too just writing this review I can picture them.

I finished by thinking wow where's the next book because it was really interesting and new in a way it could be described as refreshing or just different when it come to the main character. The story as a whole has kind of been done before but not in this way, not exactly as Kiersten white did it.

Overall it was funny interesting different, a good read.

Rating: 3 and a half stars

Quick Review:
- variety
- great plot
- sad scenes and happy scenes aka emotional
- a concept not often explored in Ya
- I liked the action parts and how there where the two sides good and bad but the bad side was not technically bad.(read the book and you'll understand :)

Quotes:

“Tasers are a one-size-fits-all paranormal butt-kicking option. Mine’s pink with
rhinestones.”
Paranormalcy - Kiersten White

“Oh relax." I waved my hand dismissively. "If he wanted to kill me, he already would have. I brought him all these sharp pencils, ideal for stabbing, and he's been a perfect gentleman.”
Paranormalcy - Kiersten White

“We sat down and Lend put his arm around me. Every single jaw at the table dropped.
"Man," John said, shaking his head. "All this time I was pretty sure you were gay.”
Paranormalcy - Kiersten White

“If you fail to report within the next 12 hours. you will be terminated. If you attack any humans, you will be terminated. If you attempt to remove the tracking device, you will be terminated. We look forward to working with you.”
Paranormalcy - Kiersten White

“Yes, I have a driver's license."
I leaned back against the wall, sighing. "Man, that must be so cool."
"It ranks right up there with lockers. In fact, sometimes I put my license inside my locker, and it's so cool I worry that the whole thing might explode with the sheer coolness of it all.”
Paranormalcy - Kiersten White

“Lish tried to swear--which is always funny, because the computer won't translate it. It went something like this: "Bleep stupid bleep bleep faeries and their bleep bleep bleep obsessions. He had better stop bleep bleep bleep the bleep bleep rules or I will bleep bleep bleep the little bleeeeeeeeeeep.”
Paranormalcy - Kiersten White

Starting the week write (right) # 12

Starting the week write is a weekly post started here on living through pages by me where I post some quotes images and a cool fact every Monday in a matter to start the week off right and fight off the Monday blues. This week: This week you can expect one or two book reviews since my last exam is today and I should have time to finish them :). And if I have time a post of my thoughts on the book shimmy awards this Wednesday by team epic reads.

Quotes:

“District 12: Where you can starve to death in safety.”
The Hunger games - Suzanne Collins

“This college would probably have the same problem as the last one did."
I frowned, "What's that?"
"Homework.”

Spirit Bound - Richelle Mead

“Even when the world throws it worst and then turns in its back, there is still always hope”
The Power of Six - Pittacus Lore

Pictures:

Admit it this made you chuckle! But do dauntless even do there own laundry. And if they do do they make it scarier or more dangerous, like folding the clothes while doing a one handed hand stand on the top of a building. Or running through a training maze.

The comments are hilarious!

Todays cover reveal of City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

If you have been on my blog regularly you have probably guessed I'm a HUGE fan of Cassandra Claire's writing. I absolutely love the mortal instruments and the infernal devices series and I own both complete series and also 2 versions of The Shadowhunter Codex the limited edition version and the normal hardcover version ya.... I know but the series are just too amazing.
So today on Jan 14 2014 the cover is revealed for city of heavenly fire the last book in the mortal instruments series. They are going to show it first on the insider on CBS at 7 pm ET !!! I'm not sure if I have that channel but if I do I'm going to be watching it and if you cant watch it there will be an update later as soon as I can find a picture of it. But for now here's a recap of the covers so far.

I found this image while searching on Google images it links up to goodreads page for the CoHF book but on the page theres still no cover? Weird could this be the real cover it looks pretty legitimate. if not it's Very well made and i compliment the artist but since the image links up to goodreads I'm not sure who the artist is it if it is a fake fan made cover. Either way well find out tonight!

Here they are the complete series up to date after 7 there will be an update for the cover of CoHF!!!

UPDATE

And the new cover is out and its not the one above ( and again good job to the artist who did it, it rocks) Here it is.....

What are my thoughts on it? I LOVE it! Cassandra Claire confirmed on twitter that it was indeed Sebastien and Clary on the cover but she also said on twitter that Jace,Izzy,Simon and Maia are on the inside of the cover so no worry's there on what it might mean that Sebastien is on the cover and not Jace right? Also for those who have read the books.... white dress on Clary those it mean anything?! Overall I really like the cover the not so fun part is waiting until May to get the book.  :(

Starting the week write (right) # 11

Starting the week write is a weekly post started here on living through pages by me where I post some quotes images and a cool fact every Monday in a matter to start the week off right and fight off the Monday blues. Feel free to join in on this weekly post just mention where the idea comes from in your post and please leave the link to your starting the week right post in the comments (though the link is not mandatory just appreciated).

Update:
Hello readers I know this is kind of late.... but let's just pretend it's Monday morning and not Monday afternoon I've been very very busy with school work since exams are coming up at the end of the week and I completely forgot to post this this morning. But its here now and it's still Monday, :) Anyways... I'm back from the christmas break it was nice but I did miss blogging. Saddly where I went for vacation had no internet acess like I said in my previous post but now posts will be coming up regularaly even though I'm pretty stresed with the exams comming up. So much work to do! :) and so little time to read (tears) the books are calling to me! :)

Quotes:

“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
- Neil Gaiman

No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.
-   Confucius

The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
-   Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

Pictures:

Buffy the vampire slayer it's very true though most big events usually includes the library in the show.

I thought this was so hilarious if someone doesn't get ill just do a quick recap. Bruce Lee is a pretty famous martial artist mostly know for his parts in action movies. And Lit (lire) mean reading in french so the translation is "Bruce,Reads and that's good.''
